Tactical Profile
Technical Prowess
Aasgaard was signed as a playmaker to excel in tight spaces, something particularly important in Scottish football where space can be at a premium. Having shown his ability to operate between the lines, and display excellent spatial awareness as well as acting as link between midfield and attack, it was obvious what attracted Rangers to him.
Long-Range Threat
One of the most dangerous facets of his game is his ball-striking ability from distance. He is a natural finisher from the edge of the area, often looking to bend efforts into the far corner or provide whipped deliveries from dead-ball situations.
Physical Development
While his technical quality is undeniable, the move north has challenged him to adapt to the physical intensity of the Scottish Premiership. His next step is maintaining his creative output consistently when faced with aggressive, low-block defences.
Thelo Aasgaard fighting to regain Danny Rohl’s trust
There were high expectations placed on the shoulders of Thelo Aasgaard when he joined Rangers from Luton Town in a reported £3.5million deal in the summer transfer window. While there is no doubting the technical ability the Norway international possesses, there are doubts over the physical capability he has to cope in the Scottish Premiership. Certainly, it has been difficult to persuade Danny Rohl he is worth of a regular spot in the starting XI at Ibrox, and he faces a battle to win over his manager. It has led to suggestions that Aasgaard might already be moved on in the summer, but there is undoubtedly a player in there so it feels unlikely they will give up on him just yet. But time is running out in this campaign to show Rohl that he can be a major player in his plans.
What has Danny Rohl said about Thelo Aasgaard?
Aasgaard has struggled to consistently prove to Rohl that he can be a danger in his Rangers team. But there is still a feeling among supporters that he can be an asset to the squad.
Speaking back in November 2025, Rohl hinted that he is willing to show patience in helping Aaasgaard prove his worth to the team.
He said: “I think he has a big expectation of himself.
“The time will come, I will help him, we will support him, and it will come, of course.”
Of course, his struggles to break into the team maybe suggest that stance has changed, so with Aasgaard it feels a little like a “watch this space” scenario.
