Rangers: Chris Sutton demands answers as Kris Boyd hints at ‘more context’ to James Tavernier situation

Rangers captain James Tavernier deserved a better sending off against Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday.

While some fans and pundits have criticised the right-back for seemingly withdrawing from the squad after learning he wouldn’t start for the Gers in the 2-1 loss to Hibs, Kris Boyd has claimed that there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The former Scotland international doesn’t want to get into details but has revealed that there’s more context to the situation, with Danny Rohl making a mess of things.

Chris Sutton wanted Boyd not to be ambiguous about what went on between the German manager and the 34-year-old defender, but the ex-Light Blues forward didn’t want to go into the details.

It looks like fans haven’t been told everything about Tavernier’s falling-out with Rohl and only the Govan side’s captain can clear things up.

James Tavernier agents suggest there’s more to Rangers story

Speaking on The Warm-Up on 14 May, Boyd said, “I’m not going into it because I don’t think it’s right for me to say it. But there’s more context to that story than what’s coming out. It’s not for me to say. “

Sutton interjected, “You can’t just throw that out,” and Boyd responded, “I can. I would’ve been very unhappy the way it was managed as well. I’d be very unhappy. The family situation, coming to the game, kids, mascots and everything, that was all arranged and that was the way it was to be played out.”

Tavernier’s agents have also taken to social media with a “time will tell the tale” message.

Rohl hasn’t covered himself in glory after what’s transpired with the Gers’ captain, who should have arguably started at Ibrox and taken off in the second half for an ovation from the home fans.

The veteran defender coming out before kick-off only to receive an award from John Greig before leaving hasn’t gone down well with many fans in G51.

It looks like Tavernier will share his side of the story when the time is right and the German manager may not come out with flying colours in the end.

Andrew Cavenagh now has Danny Rohl dilemma

Andrew Cavenagh seems to be behind Rohl for now, but the mood around Rangers souring will surely lead to some reconsideration.

The German manager has now lost four league games on the bounce, the first time that’s happened at the Gers since 1983.

With the Light Blues losing to Hibernian, there’s now evidently even more pressure on the 37-year-old head coach for his decision with Tavernier.

Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ faith in Rohl will undoubtedly be tested in the coming months, as the environment at Ibrox can quickly turn toxic.
