Danny Rohl passes up shrewd chance with Rangers XI vs Falkirk

Danny Rohl has opted against bringing in youngsters and fringe players to his starting XI for Rangers‘ final day clash with Falkirk.

With nothing left to play for on the final day of the 2025-26 season, Rangers’ season has gone out with a hugely frustrating whimper.

Rohl is now coming under serious fire from supporters and pundits alike, which has only intensified following the James Tavernier selection drama against Hibernian.

The German coach looks set to lead Gers into the summer and the start of next season though, but he’s got plenty of fans to win back for the way his side have capitulated over the last few weeks.

One short-term avenue to doing that would’ve been to play the youth and give fringe players a chance in Rangers’ final day meeting with Falkirk, but Rohl hasn’t done that.

What Rangers team has Danny Rohl picked vs Falkirk?

Rohl was expected to rotate his team for Falkirk, with Saturday’s game looking like a natural and sensible opportunity for him to offer minutes to those who haven’t received many, if any, under him.

Given how big of a summer lies ahead in terms of ins and outs, treating their trip to Stirlingshire as an early 2026-27 pre-season-type game.

However, Rohl has ignored any calls for him to field a heavily rotated starting XI filled with youngsters and fringe players against the Bairns, which will no doubt be to the frustration of many Gers fans.

Indeed, he’s made just two changes to the team that lost to Hibs in midweek, with John Souttar replacing Dujon Sterling, whilst Djeidi Gassama gets the nod over Oliver Antman respectively.

Rangers look to be going with a back four of Nasser Djiga, Souttar, Emmanuel Fernandez and Tuur Rommens, and a midfield trio through the middle of Thelo Aasgaard, Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron.

Mikey Moore and Gassama are set to start out wide, with Youssef Chermiti once again leading the line at Falkirk Stadium.

Rohl looks to be prioritising a win over opportunities

Saturday’s game is Rohl and Rangers’ final chance to put an end to their four-game losing run, and at least go into the summer with something to build on.

Albeit, Gers can’t finish in any other position than third, in some ways, what’s five losses in a row at this stage when you’ve already dropped four?

The value of getting an extra look at some players that decisions need to be made on this summer, as well as offering opportunities to some talented youngsters to see if there’s any gems kicking around, surely offers more long-term worth than a win?

Regardless, Rohl’s mind is set, but if his side don’t take the three points against Falkirk on Saturday afternoon, then his starting XI call will reflect considerably worse on him.
