Rangers on verge of submitting bid to sign Akpe Victory, talks held over £4m+ deal

Rangers have opened talks to sign Akpe Victory from Zalaegerszeg.

The centre-back is certainly catching the eye in Hungary right now after a true breakthrough season with Zete.

That has prompted links of a move to Ibrox as Danny Rohl looks to add fresh defensive options to his squad ahead of the summer.

That can’t come as a surprise after the recent problems at the back, which ultimately helped derail the Gers’ Scottish Premiership title challenge.

Victory has emerged as a target for Rangers with discussions already underway ahead of a potential multi-million-pound deal.

Rangers considering Akpe Victory transfer offer

The Govan faithful wouldn’t be blamed for not knowing too much about the Nigerian and his progress in the Hungarian top division.

The teenager has caught the eye this campaign and is quickly becoming rated as one of the best centre-back prospects in Europe.

That has unsurprisingly piqued the interest of various sides across the continent, with Ibrox emerging as a potential destination.

Ben Jacobs reported on Friday that Rangers have already opened talks in an effort to sign Victory from Zalaegerszeg this summer.

The journalist added that various sides from Germany, Spain and France are also interested, with Benfica having already tabled an offer.

The Light Blues are said to be close to making an offer for the defender, with the expected fee set to be in excess of £4.3million.

Emmanuel Fernandez has been an excellent signing for Rangers, and Victory could prove to be the next star in the Light Blues’ backline.

Victory would come at sizable fee for Rangers

Although £4.3m may not seem like a large amount, it is for an Ibrox outfit that hasn’t always had funds like that available.

If the Nigerian were to cost that exact fee, he would come in at the same cost that Mohamed Diomande, Kemar Roofe and Cyriel Dessers did in G51.

It would even be more than the likes of Nikica Jelavic and Steven Davis, who certainly had massively positive stints with the Gers.

Victory would have some way to go if he were to live up to those expectations, although the Govan outfit have certainly spent big money on worse.

Recent deals for the likes of Youssef Chermiti, Danilo and Ryan Naderi were expensive and haven’t truly paid off (yet), so spending that on a potential sure thing like the defender looks to be wise.
