Rangers ace Steven Davis career could be over after knee injury reveal – Steve Lomas
Steve Lomas has shared his fears that Rangers midfielder Steven Davis’ career could be over after he suffered a serious knee injury.
The veteran midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up an injury in training last week, and with his contract at the club set to expire in the summer he may have already played his last game for the Ibrox club.
But while speaking to Daily Record (26 December), former St Johnstone manager Lomas admitted there is concern that it could be the end of his playing career entirely.

“It’s disappointing, not just for Steven but also for Rangers and Northern Ireland,” he said.
“I know Michael O’Neill had spoken to Steven and he decided to carry on playing for the international side. A lot will depend on the severity of the injury and whether or not he requires surgery.
“Fingers crossed that’s not the case and Steven does have the option to carry on playing, whether it’s with Rangers or somewhere else. But the fear is that it’s a bad injury that could keep him out for eight to nine months minimum before he can think about coming back.
“Knowing the kind of determined character Steven is, I know he’ll not want this to be the way his career ends. But as I said, a lot of that will be decided by just how bad the injury is.”
Awful
Davis is not quite the player he once was and his absence on the pitch won’t likely be missed too much this season, but it’s so sad to see him go out this way.
A career as good as his shouldn’t be ended by injury but on his own terms, and the hope is that despite the long recovery period he will be able to do that.

Michael Beale has so far leaned on experience since his return to the club and Davis is someone he’ll know well from his previous time at Rangers, and in the big games he may have opted for his experience and smarts to get the job done.
However that is now off the table and all the best wishes from fans and anyone associated to Rangers will be hopeful he can return at some point down the road and not be forced away early.
Eyes must now turn to his replacement though, whether in January or the summer and plans shouldn’t have changed too much with a new deal always unlikely beyond the summer.
