Derek McInnes compensation ‘could hit £10m’ as Rangers get their man
Derek McInnes could cost Rangers an eight-figure fee after his move from Hearts, says a former scout.
The 54-year-old has now been named as the new manager at Ibrox after the departure of Danny Rohl.
The German has wasted no time after taking training with RB Salzburg immediately after his move was confirmed.
There aren't any worries surrounding his departure, largely due to the swift appointment of the Scot in G51.
He is coming off the back of a superb year at Tynecastle and will be hoping to replicate that at Ibrox moving forward.
As good as the appointment of McInnes seems to be for Rangers, it could cost them a sizable fee.
Rangers could pay Hearts £10m for Derek McInnes
The former Aberdeen boss completed a move to the Maroons last summer after a productive spell at Kilmarnock.
It looked to be a shrewd appointment and it turned out to be that way in his maiden campaign.
McInnes penned a four-year deal with Hearts to be their head coach, but has obviously left after just over 12 months later.
The length of his contract will have benefitted Tony Bloom and Co. and left the cards in their hands.
Former Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham scout Bryan King has now suggested Rangers could pay up to £10million to Hearts for their new manager.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, King said: "I think the compensation fee could be somewhere between £6m and £10m.
"He's a good, honest football man and that's what Rangers need. They need someone who's going to work hard and generate some heart back into the side.
"That's what's been lacking. If they don't get some discipline and some heart, Rangers are going to be second or third again."
It has previously been reported Rangers will pay a far smaller sum, but it is unknown what clauses have been negotiated as part of the agreement.
McInnes still faces uphill task as Rangers appointment confirmed
There is no doubt that this was arguably the best appointment the Gers could have made, but that doesn't guarantee success.
The Ibrox club have seriously struggled in recent years and it will take a big turnaround to truly battle for the title in the upcoming seaon.
There will be immediate pressure on the shoulders of McInnes for that reason, but that will only be made worse by such a sizable compensation fee.
To outlay a sizable figure for a manager means they need to hit the ground running almost immediately.
The Scot should be able to do that, but there's no doubt that things have been made difficult for him before he's even started.
