Rangers chances of signing Vaclav Cerny revealed as Besiktas stance clarified
Rangers chances of signing Vaclav Cerny are minimal, Ibrox News can reveal.
There had been claims in the Turkish media that the 28-year-old could rejoin the Ibrox club.
The Czech Republic star joined the Gers on loan for the 2024-25 season, and notched 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches.
He joined Besiktas on a permanent deal after that spell, with the Light Blues not choosing to enter the race for his signature.
His status at the Super Lig outfit was in doubt, but it appears that he will remain in Istanbul.
That stance essentially rules out a comeback to the Scottish Premiership club.
What are Rangers chances of signing Vaclav Cerny?
There was buzz around Gers supporters concerning a potential return for the winger.
However, reports in Turkey had claimed on Tuesday that the Black Eagles are determined to keep him around.
Sabeh journalist Dogukan Yildrim confirmed exclusively to Ibrox News that those reports are accurate, and it would take a huge fee to even consider an exit.
He said: "It is true, he will most likely stay at Besiktas.
"If a high offer comes in, Besiktas may consider it, but a decision will likely be made after the pre-season camp.
"For now, the information we have is that Cerny will stay with the team."
What has Cerny said about Rangers since he left?
Cerny has fond memories of his time with the Gers, and may well be open to a comeback.
He notched five goals and notched eight assists in 30 matches for the Turkish side, so was not as good as his form for the Light Blues.
After leaving the Govan side in May 2025, he reminisced fondly on his time, saying: "I managed to play a lot of games, almost 60 in one season, which is wonderful. I had a wonderful relationship with the fans.
“I’m just sorry I couldn’t win anything with Rangers. But I will have very nice memories, they have a magical stadium."
He would be welcomed back with open arms by supporters in G51, but unfortunately it looks like it will not be a possibility this summer despite the interest.
If the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh could pull it off, it would galvanise the fanbase, however, they can't pay over the odds for one player when the team needs so much work.
Derek McInnes needs to be backed with numerous players to try and overcome his former club Hearts and champions Celtic next season.
