Vaclav Cerny return question raised at Rangers amid whispers abroad
Vaclav Cerny's potential return to Rangers could be on the cards.
The Czechia winger spent the 2024-25 season on loan with the Gers, and he quickly got supporters onside.
The 28-year-old notched 18 goals and nine assists in 52 matches in all competitions, an impeccable record.
However, he did not move to Ibrox permanently after that loan spell, and instead went to Besiktas.
The Light Blues were priced out of a deal, with Wolfsburg getting £6million from the Super Lig outfit.
New claims from Turkey have brought up the possibility of Cerny coming back, though.
Could Vaclav Cerny return to Rangers?
Cerny made a huge impact at Rangers, and bringing him back would prove to be a coup, given his previous exploits in Scottish football.
The move was mooted by Besiktas Club Congress Member Murat Ozen, who has over 300,000 X followers, on a live broadcast on the Orta Cizgi YouTube channel.
He said: “I heard a very interesting rumour about Cerny, but it’s just a rumour, something being discussed behind the scenes.
“Could it be about Rangers, brother?”
Why Cerny return would be a great move for Rangers
A return to Rangers would be a wise move for all parties, it is as simple as that.
For starters, Cerny has not hit the same heights with the Turkish side, notching eight goals and eight assists in 37 matches in all competitions.
The Light Blues are crying for a difference maker in attack, and his impact is already well known from his temporary time with the Govan side already.
Mikey Moore has returned to Tottenham, Andreas Skov Olsen has not been retained following his loan spell, and Youssef Chermiti is attracting interest in the market, so there may be a gap for a Cerny-like player.
Former interim manager Barry Ferguson described the player as "outstanding" after he replaced Philippe Clement in the dugout.
It would put the Bears supporters in a much better mood about the state of the club, and surely put the G51 outfit right back in contention for the title, if they could secure a return.
Whether it moves on from being a rumour, to actual interest, remains to be seen, but is a very interesting possibility as Ozen said.
It seems like a no-brainer for the heirarchy, but the Istanbul-based club's terms for a sale are not known at the moment.
