Ross McCausland could finally end Rangers nightmare with permanent exit

Ross McCausland has once again started pre-season at Rangers.

That is despite the Northern Ireland international not expected to have a future at Ibrox.

McCausland has one year left on his current contract in Govan, and spent last season out on loan.

Returning from Aris Limassol to new manager Derek McInnes, the door could have been opened for one last chance.

And despite travelling to Spain for the latest pre-season camp, the winger may have seen his last involvement in blue.

But, as one door closes, another usually opens in football.

Rangers field serious interest in Ross McCausland

After missing out on a permanent move to Cyprus, a European move is still on the cards.

Anthony Joseph and Sky Sports have reported that Casa Pia have made an approach to sign McCausland.

More importantly, they are even exploring a permanent move.

Based in Portugal, it would see McCausland move to the Primeira Liga to continue his career.

It's unknown whether Rangers would agree to loan terms anyway, given it would lead to a free transfer with no fee next summer.

Has Ross McCausland caught the eye in pre-season?

Ibrox News has explored if McCausland could be reintegrated by Rangers and McInnes, but there isn't much hope.

He has featured in pre-season games already, starting in a 3-1 win behind-closed-doors against Dunfermline.

That was more of a case of McInnes lacking in numbers though, with little depth out wide at the moment.

Rangers are looking to sign new widemen, with Vaclav Cerny strongly linked with a return.

That tells you all you need to know about McCausland, and given he is already behind the likes of Djeidi Gassama, there is zero hope.

It's been a nightmare few years for the winger since breaking through and being tipped for stardom by a select few.

His red card at Pittodrie against Aberdeen lives long in the memory, before he slowly started being phased out by manager after manager.

McCausland isn't that young winger anymore, and his exit will only allow the likes of Findlay Curtis to prove their worth even more.

Space needs to be made, and if Rangers and McInnes want to strengthen further in the final third, deals like this simply have to be sanctioned.
