Ross McCausland has already been shown an example how to revive his Rangers career.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Aris Limassol in Cyprus, with four goals and four assists in 26 matches.

The Northern Irish winger joined the Gers academy in 2019 from Linfield for a fee of £60,000.

McCausland's Rangers contract is set expire in the summer of 2027, meaning he has just one season to secure an extension.

He has not played competitively for the Gers since April 2025, and faces a battle to regain his place under Derek McInnes.

One of his teammates has already given him the blueprint on how to ensure that he stays in Govan.

Why Bailey Rice is the perfect example for Ross McCausland

Bailey Rice should be the example to follow for McCausland, as he wants to stay put rather than leaving.

The 19-year-old midfielder has made just 16 appearances since signing for the Light Blues in 2023.

Despite that, and significant interest in his services from the likes of Aston Villa, Ajax and Schalke, he has signed a new deal with the Bears.

The former Motherwell man spent most of last season out injured, but clearly showed enough to warrant fresh terms.

That says a lot about his mentality and work-rate behind the scenes and is something that McCausland needs to follow.

What went wrong for McCausland at Rangers?

McCausland came with significant hype when he first made his way into the Gers side.

His breakthrough came in the 2023-24 season, when he made 42 appearances for the Gers, including 24 in the league and five in the Europa League.

He then played just 25 times in the 2024-25 campaign, before fully falling out of favour with Russell Martin and being sent out on loan.

He has notched seven goals and seven assists in 66 total games for the Auchenhowie side, and it remains to be seen whether McInnes decides he has a future at the club.

Hopefully, he will at least be handed pre-season opportunities to potentially make a stunning comeback into the squad if he impresses the new boss.

If not, then he made be sold as their are plenty of clubs that have apparently shown interest in his services.
