Rangers player ratings vs Saint-Etienne - Tuur Rommens off the boil, Lawrence Shankland relentless

Derek McInnes has overseen a 2-1 win against Saint-Etienne in his first Rangers game at Ibrox.

Over the past few weeks, the Gers have been preparing for the season behind closed doors.

But, with the official start of the season not so far away now, the Bears have began their pre-season friendlies in front of supporters.

McInnes was able to get his first experience as Rangers manager in front of the Ibrox crowd against the French outfit.

For most of the game, McInnes likely did not get the performance he wanted, but pre-season is about getting these kinks out of the system.

Here is how the Gers squad got on against St Etienne.

Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti partnership looks lively

After last season's performances from Youssef Chermiti, there have been many questions as to how he would link up with Lawrence Shankland.

However, in the early showings, it seems to be a natural partnership already for Derek McInnes.

The relentless workrate of Shankland proved to be an excellent complement for the Portuguese forward.

Both had multiple moments where they produced a lively link-up and Shankland of course netted his goal from the 12-yard spot.

Chermiti was also unlucky not to add to Rangers' scoreline in the first-half too.

Tuur Rommens has rare Rangers off-day

Last season Tuur Rommens emerged as an excellent signing for the Gers under Danny Rohl.

But, it was far from a first-half performance that was commonly associated with him previously.

Although he looked lively going forward, the Belgian did at times struggled defensively against Thierno Ballo on the opposing team.

For the equalising goal, Rommens failed to effectively clear the ball from his box, with Ballo then easily beating him one-versus-one.

The St Etienne winger simply played a ball across the box to make it 1-1 at the time.

His second-half was an improvement but not by much.
