Michael Beale hints at Rangers exits for Alfredo Morelos, Allan McGregor and Ryan Kent
Michael Beale has hinted that Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Allan McGregor won’t be Rangers players next season in an interview with Sky Sports.
The trio are out of contract at the end of the season but have all featured regularly this season under Beale, with Morelos and McGregor starting in the 5-2 win over St Mirren last weekend (15 April).
They played alongside the likes of Rabbi Matondo, John Souttar and John Lundstram who have seen their futures doubted for next season, but Beale believes everyone who featured in that game will still be at the club for the 2023/24 season with a few exceptions.
“Last week everyone that played – barring maybe Alfredo [Morelos] and Allan [McGregor] – will be a Rangers player next season and it was a strong performance again with five goals,” he said.
Beale also hinted that a decision has been made regarding the future of Kent, although he wasn’t willing to elaborate too much.
“There’s a moment to reveal what’s going to happen and as much as I’d like to tell you everything, I have to keep a bit back,” he said.
“Ryan’s personal stuff is in that as well. Every time he plays he gives me everything the’s got and we have a fantastic relationship going back 10 years so we’re on the same page.”
Wow
It’s probably something that most Rangers fans have expected to hear for a while, but to see it all but confirmed by the boss is something else.
Morelos and Kent have been absolutely key to the way this Rangers side has attacked over the last five years, establishing themselves as modern fan favourites and writing themselves into folklore with number 55 and the Europa League final run.

But once their contracts were allowed to run down to this extent it seemed obvious they wouldn’t renew, although it would be very interesting to know whose decision it really was.
As for McGregor he’s just at the time in his career where he’s on a downward trajectory and the club need to move on from him by bringing in a new, younger and more reliable number one.
He will go down as a legend for the club, but most will agree that it is probably the right time for these three to move on so that the club can push on under Beale.
In other Rangers news, Beale made a transfer admission to Ally McCoist live on talkSPORT.
