Atalanta want Thelo Aasgaard transfer as Rangers clearly sat on millions
Thelo Aasgaard hasn't enjoyed the easiest starts to life at Rangers.
Signed from Luton Town as somewhat of an unknown, the Norway international was far too inconsistent.
Struggling under Russell Martin, Aasgaard slowly came out of his shell under Danny Rohl, scoring several wonderful goals.
Known for his highlight reel, the midfielder is now at the World Cup, scoring against France in his first full start at the tournament.
Stepping inside Bayern Munich powerhouse Dayot Upamecano, Aasgaard smashed home a low drive past Mike Maignan.
That has placed him in the shop window, though, with Atalanta's interest intriguing in more ways than one.
Atalanta reputation proves how much Thelo Aasgaard is worth
Signed for around £3.5million, it may be hard for many to achieve profit within a year.
That likely won't be the case with Aasgaard, despite his average season, given interest from Serie A and Italy.
Atalanta are among the best transfer dealers in the world, too.
Damiano Er Faina of Contro Calcio, followed by the likes of Fabrizio Romano on X, has shared their interest in Aasgaard.
It is said that while Crystal Palace are pushing to sign defender Odilon Kossounou, Atalanta want a new midfielder.
Planning for the future, Aasgaard in one player they really like and any transfer is wanted before their pre-season begins on 6 July.
Why Atalanta's transfer interest is great news for Rangers
When you think of smart transfer operators in football, the likes of Brighton are one of the best.
Atalanta are right up there, too.
In the past five years alone, they have sold the likes of Rasmus Hojland to Manchester United for £72m, and Mateo Retegui for £55m, tripling what they paid for him the previous year.
The Italians are known for buying relatively unknown players, and selling them for serious profit years later, sometimes sooner.
Just look at this summer, Ederson is now set to join Man United in midfield for £35m, the Brazilian they only signed for £18.9m.
In fact, Atalanta only have a record transfer of £26m, which isn't a huge amount for a top European league, via Transfermarkt.
It's proof that the £3.5m spent by Rangers on Aasgaard could go through the roof if they resist interest now.
Imagine an impressive second season of numbers after scoring at a World Cup, Rangers could be sat on millions.
They just don't know it, yet.
