Rangers v Dundee: Simon Jordan delivers ‘remarkably pompous’ verdict amid SPFL chaos

Simon Jordan has delivered his verdict after Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee was postponed again due to a waterlogged pitch.

After the match was postponed for a second time, the club wrote a letter to the SPFL, claiming the situation showcased Dundee’s “negligence and unprofessionalism” amid frustration from the club and fans. [Rangers FC]

Rangers have the opportunity to go above Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Philippe Clement’s men hoping to take advantage of their game in hand against The Dee.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (11 April, 10:50am), Jordan said: “There’s a sense of irony about this because this is a club that can’t get its act together with its biggest rivals to allow fans in to watch a game between the two clubs.

“They are probably in breach of SPFL rules by not allowing an away side to have an allocation. I think there is an irony behind that. I’m not entirely sure why Rangers felt the need to be so robust.

“They may well be irritated, they may well be disappointed, and they may well be playing to the gallery of 4,000 disappointed fans.

“It’s a bit ridiculous. If we are steeped in substance that they had the opportunity to play the game last week and didn’t want to, then I really don’t know why they’re being holier than thou.

“Looking from the outside, it sounds remarkably pompous, and condescending, while they don’t have their own house in order. When you’re going to stand on a pulpit, preaching to others about what they should be doing, and pointing the finger, four fingers are going to point back.”

Should Dundee be punished for the Rangers postponement chaos?

Rangers are, understandably, frustrated with the whole situation surrounding their postponed match at Dens Park. Few fans were surprised when the game was called off for the second time.

Despite the expectation that the match would be postponed again, fans still stayed positive and began travelling to the game, only for it to be called off a few hours before.

The Gers’ game in hand is a crucial one at the top of the Scottish Premiership – a victory taking them above Celtic and one step closer to their second league title in the last decade.

Dens Park has been unable to host Dundee v Rangers

It seems very unfair from Jordan to suggest that the Gers are not allowed to express their frustrations just because of their own situation with the Hoops about away fan allocation, which has been worked on ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Furthermore, Rangers were never going to squeeze in a match against Dundee with a humungous clash against Celtic at Ibrox on the horizon. Clement needed his men firing at all cylinders, not recovering from a match at Dens Park.
