Charlie Mulgrew shares Cyriel Dessers admission live on Sky Sports after Rangers win v St Mirren
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers earned high praise from Charlie Mulgrew on Sky Sports after scoring the winner against St Mirren.
Dessers popped up to head in James Tavernier’s cross in the 75th minute for Rangers, securing a 2-1 win at St Mirren Park and netting his 20th goal of the season in all competitions.
Speaking post-match on Sky Sports Football (2:37pm, 28 April), Mulgrew said that Dessers has done well to stand up to the pressure of being Rangers’ leading striker.
“You’d be feeling the pressure he’s under from the Rangers fans,” Mulgrew said; “you’ll hear what they say about him and to score 20 goals is brilliant, that’s a great achievement.
“He could’ve had a lot more, yes, there was chances there, but as I say the key thing is talent.”
Mulgrew then added further praise: “He’s put himself there, right at the forefront as Rangers’ number nine, and he deserves the 20 goals.”
Decisive Cyriel Dessers goal gives Rangers much-needed win
Rangers went to St Mirren Park in dire need of a victory, having fallen behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
After a pulsating 3-3 draw with their Old Firm rivals at Ibrox, the Gers went on to lose and draw their last two matches before the Premiership split to Ross County and Dundee respectively, missing out on the chance to overtake Celtic before the 33-game split.

However, for the second game running, Dessers was on hand to make the difference for Philippe Clement’s side.
His brace against Hearts sealed a place in the Scottish Cup final last weekend, and after a cagey second half with St Mirren saw both sides snuff each other out all over the pitch, there was Dessers to steer Tavernier’s cross into the back of the net.
As a result, Rangers are back level with Celtic at the summit – for now – and if they’ve any hope of prevailing against their Glasgow rivals in this title race, or in next month’s Scottish Cup final, the goals of Dessers will be absolutely crucial.
