Nicolas Raskin personal terms in place for Rangers exit before Ibrox revenge dished out

Nicolas Raskin had agrees personal terms with Besiktas before Rangers torpedoed the midfielder's move to Turkey.

Although the Turkish transfer window until 9:59pm (British time) on Friday night, it looks as though a deal for Besiktas to sign the Belgian midfielder is dead in the water.

The Istanbul club launched multiple bids to pry Raskin away from Ibrox, however, they were all batted away by the Scottish Premiership side.

Now, it seems that Raskin did actually agree to join Besiktas himself.

After three years and no titles in Govan, despite being a fully fledged Belgium international, not many would have begrudged Raskin had he moved on, especially with no European football this season at Ibrox.

However, it seems that a retaliatory move from within the walls of Ibrox may have been the reason why Raskin wasn't granted permission to move to Turkey.

Why Vaclav Cerny was central to Nicolas Raskin's failed Besiktas move

According to Turkish journalist Ali Ece, Rangers blocked any bid from Besiktas for Raskin because the Super Lig club wouldn't accept any offers from them to re-sign Vaclav Cerny.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Cerny was linked with a return to Rangers.

Ese reported on NEO Sport that the Gers offered £6million for Cerny, but Besiktas wanted £10.3m for the Czech forward, who impressed while on loan in Govan in the 2024-25 season.

As a result of that refusal, the Light Blues "didn't give up Raskin" to the Turkish giants.

Ultimately, Rangers can say that their dealings with Besiktas have, if anything, been positive.

Why Rangers should be happy with Besiktas encounters

Although Cerny won't be returning to Rangers, the club has avoided re-signing someone who is approaching his 29th birthday and although he played well in his time in Scotland, should they really be crawling back to someone who didn't win anything there?

In order to move forward, you can't look back and you certainly can't stay still.

It's one of the mistakes that the Gers have made time and time again in recent years.

So many efforts have been made - sometimes successfully - to bring former Rangers men back to Ibrox

And on so many occasions, players have stayed at the club a lot longer than they should.

Rangers fans demand silverware - so wanting people to come back to the club who didn't win anything the first time around is a big no no.
