All 43 players Rangers failed to sign, including Vaclav Cerny and 'scary' forward

Rangers concluded their incoming summer business with signings number 13 and 14 on deadline day.

The Gers got deals over the line for forward Kevin Kelsy and winger Badredine Bouanani to round things off in appropriate fashion.

Incredibly, that matches the tally of signings made 12 months ago. Just four of those remain at Ibrox a year on.

Derek McInnes will be happy with the options he has to choose upon, even if it is going to take a while for this new group to gel.

But in the midst of all those confirmed signings over the past few months, there have been even more near-misses.

Ibrox News looks back at a hectic summer for the Gers, with a total of 43 players being linked with a switch to Ibrox without joining.

Vaclav Cerny one of numerous former players linked

Plenty has been written about a Vaclav Cerny return to Ibrox all summer long, particularly in the past month or so.

Rangers are believed to have bid for Cerny, but they were not willing to match Besiktas' asking price.

Cerny was not the only former Rangers player linked with a return, either. Mikey Moore, who spent last season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was another.

Moore, hailed a "scary" talent by Spurs teammate James Maddison, instead joined Bundesliga sign Cologne on loan.

Lewis Ferguson, who did not actually make a senior appearance for the club, was also touted with a return on and off - though a transfer never seemed to be realistic this summer.

There was also talk of Andreas Skov Olsen coming back, plus Robbie Ure and Jayden Meghoma, but nothing came of any of those links.

Jens Hjerto-Dahl tops 'one that got away' list

It looked as though Rangers were going to strike a deal for Jens Hjerto-Dahl at one point, even after Cardiff City came in with a better bid.

However, newly promoted Premier League side Hull City were the team that got a deal over the line for the Norway Under-21s international.

Sticking with near misses, you do not come any closer to joining a club without doing so than Couhaib Driouech.

He underwent a medical with the Gers, only for an issue to be flagged and the move to break down. Driouech has since joined Celta Vigo.

Of the other names on the list, a deal for Amario Cozier-Duberry appeared to be closest but he was instead loaned by Brighton to Middlesbrough.

Full-backs galore linked with Rangers

Rangers were looking to replace James Tavernier this summer, and did so with the arrival of Kosta Nedeljkovic, but numerous names were linked prior to that - including on the opposite flank.

Ryan Alebiosu, James Overy, Hugo Siquet and Kostyantyn Vivcharenko were linked earlier in the window.

Links with Emmanuel Longelo and Bryan Reynolds followed, but exactly how interested Rangers were in any of those remains to be seen.

Centre-backs were also seemingly touted with moves to Rangers on a daily basis, with Antef Tsoungui, Adamo Nagalo, Michael Parker, Zinedin Smajlovic, Pierre Ekwah, Scott McKenna, Casper Widell and Sankhoun Diawara all mentioned at various points.

That is not to forget goalkeeping targets, either, as Anthony Patterson, Sebastiano Desplanches and Pierce Charles were linked prior to Ivor Pandur joining from Hull City.

What other forwards and midfielders were on Rangers' radar?

There were surprisingly few midfielders linked with the Gers. Of those that didn't arrive, or have not been mentioned, only Gvidas Gineitis and Ryan Fosso appear.

There were plenty of forwards on the Gers' radar, though - and they signed their fair share, too.

Cameron Archer, Elijah Just, Joe Gelhardt and Ryan One each would have done a job at Ibrox, no doubt.

Some lesser-known names, such as Lenny Joseph, Ibrahima Balde, Rayan Fofana, Camilo Mena and Tawanda Maswanhise may also have done a job had they arrived.

A move for Hearts' Claudio Braga would have proved controversial had those links come to anything, while Stephy Mavididi is another the Gers looked at, albeit briefly.

Oskar Fallenius, Fares Ghedjemis, Jahnoah Markelo and Adama Sidibeh conclude the list.

Plenty of names there, then, with some better known than others, but Rangers ultimately got deals done for 14 new faces and it is now over to McInnes to do the rest.
