Rangers ‘set to sign striker’ as Russell Martin gets what he wants

Russell Martin wants attacking reinforcements as he aims to make Rangers champions of Scotland next season.

Gers finished significantly behind their arch-rivals Celtic last term and have made a managerial change to right all the wrongs in recent years.

With new owners now calling the shots, there is optimism for a bright future.

Russell Martin wants another striker and winger after Gassama

According to the Daily Record (14 July), Martin wants the club to sign another winger and forward this summer.

Despite Djeida Gassama being set to move to Rangers, the new Gers boss wants more options in attack.

Vaclav Cerny shone last season but has returned to Wolfsburg after his loan spell and is not expected to return as he’s out of budget for the Ibrox outfit.

There could also be an upheaval in terms of the strikers at the club, so another number nine is understood to be a priority.

Rangers must now ramp up their pursuit of a new striker

Rangers must prioritise signing a new striker imminently due to the potential departures of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane, which could leave their attack critically understaffed.

Dessers, with over 50 goals in two seasons, is linked with AEK Athens, while Igamane, who scored 16 goals last term, is a target for Lille, with Gers valuing him at £15million-£20million.

Losing both would create a significant gap in firepower, especially with Danilo’s inconsistent fitness and goal-scoring record.

Jamie Vardy, a prime target for Rangers, is reportedly close to joining Valencia, diminishing the Glasgow club’s options for a proven replacement.

With the Scottish Premiership and Champions League qualifiers looming, Martin needs a reliable striker to maintain competitiveness against Celtic and in Europe.

Delaying could disrupt squad cohesion and jeopardise early-season performance, making it critical to secure a high-quality forward swiftly to bolster the attack.
