Why Andy Halliday was 'surprised' with Derek McInnes call that didn't go down well at Rangers
Derek McInnes fuelled frustration at Rangers in the draw away to Dundee.
The Ibrox club dropped points for the first time since August as they travelled to Dens on Saturday.
Bradley Fink's opener summed up the problems that the Gers faced at the back throughout the night.
It was two stunning strikes from Badredine Bouanani and Nico Raskin that had put the away side 2-1 up.
That was until Dan Neil was too slow on the ball and Callum Jones found the bottom corner.
As annoying as that was, it is an in-match decision from McInnes that has got Andy Halliday's back up.
The 'gripe' Andy Halliday has with Derek McInnes at Rangers
There has been plenty of recent success utilising both Kevin Kelsy and Ryan Naderi as a front two.
A change was made at Dens Park to see the Venezuelan drop to the bench in favour of Bouanani.
That raised eyebrows, but in the end it turned out to be the Algerian who dragged the Light Blues back level with a stunner.
The 21-year-old combined regularly with Minsu Kim to make the early second half performance much better than the first.
That was until McInnes substituted them both and left the travelling fans baffled.
Halliday was dead against the decision as he spoke out via Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Monday.
He said: "The only sort of gripe, if you can call it that, is I was really surprised with Derek McInnes' subs because whatever he changed at half-time, it got Rangers back into the game.
"I thought the two players who looked most likely to threaten Dundee were Bouanani and Minsu Kim, and those were the two players he replaced at the same time after 65 minutes. I felt like Ryan Naderi and Gassama, for how good they've been this year, didn't have the best of games.
"I thought they looked like the two natural substitutions at that time. I can completely get that Bouanani hasn't had a lot of football, but I just thought the decision to take him and Minsu Kim off at the same time didn't go down well."
That echoes the thoughts of the Ibrox faithful, but just how good were the pair at Dens Park?
The numbers behind Badredine Bouanani and Minsu Kim vs Dundee
It would be an understandable change if the pair hadn't been massively impactful on the night, but they were.
They had several match-leading stats between them to boast about.
Bouanani had the joint-most touches in the opposition penalty area, with seven, and the joint-most shots, with four.
Kim was similarly as impressive as he put up match-leading stats with his three chances, four shots and three dribbles.
They also combined for seven duel wins and three defensive actions as they proved that they are willing to also do the dirty work.
It's fair to say that neither Findlay Curtis nor Kelsy made the desired impact as their replacements.
The Ibrox fans will be glad to see McInnes called out for the decision.
It may have been planned and didn't necessarily lose the game for Rangers, but it was a hindrance, for sure.
