Rangers striker Fabio Silva destroyed by BBC pundit in Celtic loss
Billy Dodds has slammed Fabio Silva for his second big miss in the first half for Rangers against Celtic at Parkhead on 11 May.
The Portuguese attacker started on the left wing for Gers and found himself in numerous goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game which ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts.
His biggest one arguably came in the 20th minute of the clash and he fluffed his lines, rather than finding a way past Joe Hart in the Celtic goal.
Dodds told BBC Sportsound (11 May, 12:51 pm): “He’s got to score, it’s as simple as that.
“It’s the best chance you’ll get in any game, let alone a derby.
“Even if there is contact, I don’t care.”
Fabio Silva has let everyone down since joining Rangers
As a striker, Silva’s primary role is to score goals and capitalise on scoring opportunities.
When presented with a clear chance like the one in the 20th minute against Celtic, it is crucial for him to maintain focus on the ball and direct it towards the goal, rather than anticipating or reacting to contact.
By prioritising scoring over drawing a foul, Silva would demonstrate his commitment to his role as a forward and his determination to contribute positively to the team’s performance.
Falling to the floor in such situations not only reduces the chances of scoring but also undermines the trust and expectations of both his teammates and the fans.
Strikers are relied upon to convert opportunities into goals, and failing to do so can be demoralising for the entire team.

Moreover, by choosing to fall to the ground instead of attempting to score, Silva risks being perceived as less focused on his primary objective and more interested in seeking fouls, which could lead to negative reactions from fans and potentially affect his reputation in the long term.
