Rangers goalkeeper transfer twist shared by journalist after ‘sources’ reveal in last 24 hours
Rangers are not interested in signing Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart this summer, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (10 April), the Belgian journalist was responding to reports that the Ibrox club were keen on signing the £3.4m stopper this summer.
But after speaking to sources, Tavolieri has shared that there is no interest in the player from Glasgow and goalkeeper isn’t a position the club is looking at strengthening during the summer transfer window.
“Rangers FC family, there’s no current interest by the Scottish club for the Belgian goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart,” he wrote.
“Goalkeeper sector isn’t a priority sector to reinforce for this summer. Sources denied the news.”
Rangers must prioritise keeping Jack Butland
If there is one thing that Ibrox fans will want this summer, it’s guarantees that Jack Butland will still be playing for the club next season.
Butland joined the club from Crystal Palace on a free transfer at the end of his contract last summer and has been absolutely sensational between the sticks for both Michael Beale and then Philippe Clement.
The club have struggled for a long time to replace Allan McGregor, which saw him play for the club into his fourties as a result. But Butland has stepped into his shoes seamlessly.
The club will be aware that English Premier League clubs will be circling this summer, having rejected an offer during the January window for the 31-year-old.
But if they can keep hold of the England international, then the need for a new stopper is totally minimised and Bodart can stay in Belgium instead of coming to Glasgow.
