Rangers and Celtic developments 'crazy' in latest Scottish Premiership prediction
The two Old Firm clubs have had their moments this season, with many ups and downs already on show in the league.
Derek McInnes finally seemed to have found the winning formula at the Gers, but then dropped two points against Dundee at Dens Park in a 2-2 draw.
Martin O'Neill's team looked to be in turmoil a few weeks back but have extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
After nine matches, the Govan side have 20 points on the board and Celtic have 24.
There's still a long way to go in the season, but the race for the top has become evident in Scotland.
Are Rangers or Celtic favourites for Scottish Premiership?
Rangers were firm favourites in the Scottish Premiership after back-to-back wins against Celtic.
O'Neill's team seemed to be running away with the league title after McInnes' slow start at Ibrox, but the two Old Firm results changed perceptions in Glasgow.
However, after the latest results, with Celtic thrashing Hearts 7-1 at Parkhead, and the Gers dropping points, things have turned around again.
While it doesn't look like the Jam Tarts will be in contention to be top of the table this season, the race between the two Glaswegian clubs looks set to be enticing.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 19 October, Mulgrew said, "Crazy. Ups and downs this year. You're talking about Celtic running away with the league and maybe getting a treble.
"Then it was Rangers are on it here. You could see them storming forward. And then Celtic back in it.
"Long way to go. Nine games into the league campaign. It's early days, but we're looking at a title race between Celtic and Rangers for me."
Why Derek McInnes won't repeat experiment at Ibrox
Ryan Naderi and Kevin Kelsy seem to be at their best when they play alongside each other at Rangers.
The Czechia international couldn't make much of an impact against Dundee as he was physically dominated by the two centre-backs.
Minsu Kim also looked lost playing in the number 10 role, with Badredine Bouanani the only standout up front for the Gers.
Despite the erratic display against Kilmarnock, the Govan side got the three points in a 3-1 win, playing Kelsy and Naderi together.
With St Johnstone coming to Ibrox next, it wouldn't be surprising to see McInnes revert to his winning formula in G51.
