James McClean sends three-word message after James Tavernier howler in Rangers v Celtic

James McClean took to social media to give his reaction as Rangers conceded after just 20 seconds v Celtic in the Old Firm.

The derby started in the worst possible fashion for the Gers as James Tavernier’s clearance rebounded in off Daizen Maeda.

This was the second-quickest goal in the history of the derby and put the home side behind in the important game at Ibrox.

Wrexham defender and Celtic fan McClean took to Instagram following the goal to express his support. He simply said: “What a start!”

It was far from an ideal start for Philippe Clement whose side needed to win to get ahead in the title race in the Scottish Premiership.

How did Rangers do in the Old Firm?

After the worst possible start imaginable, the Light Blues came back into things despite not being able to get on the scoresheet.

According to FotMob, Rangers kept 55% possession and had created more by the way of xG in the opening exchanges.

The away side kept plugging away and brought some top saves out of Jack Butland who tried to keep his side in the game. For all his efforts he did concede a second not long later as Matt O’Riley converted a penalty after a Connor Goldson handball in the area.

The second half was much better from the hosts as they got one back through Tavernier who righted his earlier wrongs. Cyriel Dessers thought he had levelled the game but his goal was ruled out.

Abdallah Sima did pull the home side back on level terms but Adam Idah put Celtic back ahead instantly.

The match-saving moment came as Rabbi Matondo scored a wondergoal to rescue a point in the title race.

A good start for McClean and Celtic but a great end for Rangers to get a potentially precious point…
