Rangers: Borna Barisic close to Trabzonspor transfer, agent to travel in coming days for talks
Turkish giants Trabzonspor are in talks to sign Rangers defender Borna Barisic on a free transfer this summer, according to Sports Digitale.
Writing on their Twitter account (11 March), the Turkish news outlet reports that negotiations are underway for the Croatian left-back to leave Ibrox at the end of his contract.
In fact, they state that Barisic’s agent is set to travel to Turkey in the “coming days” to hold further talks about a move away from Glasgow.
Rangers should be open to Borna Barisic exit
Philippe Clement has previously spoken about how he wants to keep the Croatian left-back at the club beyond the end of his current contract, but football moves quickly.
At that point Barisic was the first-choice left-back at the club and it looked like Ridvan Yilmaz had no future at Ibrox, but that has completely flipped on it’s head now.
Ridvan is first-choice and shining, while Barisic is struggling for regular football. But at 31-years-old, it makes far more sense for him to leave in the summer than be given a new deal.
The club are expected to bring in Jefte on a free transfer after his January move collapsed at the last minute, and with Ridvan still shining there is no reason to look beyond that.
It would bring down the average age of the squad and while losing Barisic would mean less experience in the squad, Clement will have an opportunity to address that in the transfer window. This is a good deal for everyone.
