Steven Gerrard is still held in high regard by the majority of Rangers fans, though some time was needed to heal the sting of his departure for Aston Villa in November 2021. Ultimately, though, he is the man who delivered ’55’ to Ibrox, ending Celtic’s nine-year reign as champions and ensuring they did not win a 10th in a row. Moreover, it was achieved in some style with Rangers not losing a single league match, racking 102 points and shipping only 13 goals in 38 games. There have been several times when Gerrard has reportedly been on the cusp of returning to Govan, and not many would rule out a future return.
