Rangers: Youssef Chermiti leaves Jonatan Johansson stunned vs Falkirk, ‘Wow’

Rangers had the work of Youssef Chermiti to thank for their 5-2 victory away to Falkirk on Saturday.

The Gers travelled to FK2 for the third time this season as they saw out the Scottish Premiership campaign with a final-day win.

Things certainly started well when the Portuguese striker bagged a quickfire brace and caught the Falkirk Stadium by surprise before going on to get his hat-trick.

He set Danny Rohl’s side on the path to victory to pick up a first three points since April, a 6-3 win away to the same opposition.

It was the work of Chermiti that caught the eye for Rangers against Falkirk, with Jonatan Johansson blown away by one shining moment in particular.

Jonatan Johansson astounded by Youssef Chermiti strike vs Falkirk

It hasn’t been a total dream debut campaign in G51 for the forward after his big-money move from Everton in the summer.

There have been standout moments like his efforts against Celtic and Hearts before capping it off in excellent fashion on the final day.

Another three goals for the 21-year-old took his tally to 14 for the season, with every single one coming in the Scottish Premiership.

His best arguably came in the Old Firm as his bicycle kick stunned Ibrox, but his strike away to Falkirk has certainly given that a run for its money.

A chest and full volley from the edge of the box was sensational and left Johansson astounded on Rangers TV.

He said: “Wow. It’s just typical, isn’t it? You score an early goal, you relax, and try something very difficult. Chest, volley, and it’s right in the top corner. Wow.”

Chermiti has often baffled fans at Rangers for the wrong reasons, but on the final day he certainly did so for all the right reasons.

Jack Butland goes from sublime to ridiculous for Rangers

If the number nine’s strike was spectacular, Jack Butland’s error just seconds later was horrendous.

The Gers had hardly finished celebrating before the ball was played back to the keeper, and he allowed it to slip under his foot and into the net.

On an artificial pitch there isn’t really any bobbles to act as an excuse as the Englishman looked on in disbelief.

That was only echoed by Johansson, who couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing at Falkirk Stadium.

He said: “Oh my word, what is happening? It’s obviously an own goal. It’s one of those things where he’s looking for the next pass before he’s even controlled the ball.

“You take your eye off the ball for a second, and it rolls under your foot. It doesn’t matter when you’re a winger, but when it’s a goalkeeper, it looks really bad.”

That three-minute spell summed the Gers up this season, with so many excellent moments being ruined by lapses in concentration.
