View: Gerrard to drop 24y/o Old Firm flop in 3 changes – Predicted Rangers XI v Standard Liege

Rangers travel to Belgium on Thursday night for their first Europa League group game and they’ll be in very high spirits after an easy win against Celtic on Saturday.

This is where Steven Gerrard has to earn his corn, though, with team selection absolutely vital with Thursday/Sunday games ramping up.

Momentum is important and Rangers won’t want to get off to a losing start in Belgium.

However, Rangers can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal in the Premiership and after doing the hard work against Celtic, it’s essential they keep winning their other games.

Rangers fans will know what happened after the winter break last season following the Old Firm win at the end of December.

However, we don’t think Gerrard will change much for the trip to Standard Liege.

We do think that Jon McLaughlin could be given the Europa games but aside from that the backline should stay the same.

Ryan Jack should come back in midfield, alongside the excellent Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield.

Alfredo Morelos should start up top despite the return of Jermain Defoe and we think Kemar Roofe will be back on the bench and ready for Sunday’s game.

Ryan Kent should start on the left and Ianis Hagi should return to the side after a disappointing performance from Brandon Barker. The 24-year-old was the only Rangers player who was off it on Saturday.

This is the side that can get Rangers off to a winning start in the Europa League group stage…
