Ross McCrorie's Rangers contract examined after 'dream' Ibrox return
Ross McCrorie returned to Rangers earlier this year in a move that made sense on multiple fronts.
The right-back departed Ibrox to join Aberdeen in February 2021, but he was brought back to Govan.
The 28-year-old provides competition for Dujon Sterling after James Tavernier left at the end of his contract.
The widespread narrative was that Derek McInnes had to bring in more personalities that understood the club, after years of struggle.
McCrorie certainly is one of them, as he spent his youth in the Auchenhowie side's academy.
Ibrox News examines his contract situation with the Gers after his summer transfer.
What is Ross McCrorie's contract situation with Rangers?
McCrorie agreed to a three-year deal when he rejoined his boyhood club.
That contract will take him until the summer of 2029, and he is not on a wage that breaks the bank.
He is believed to be on approximately £7,700-per-week with the Bears, which is an annual salary of just over £400,000.
The Gers will then have to make a decision on whether to retain him, when he is 31.
The alternative is that he walks away for free when he is 31, if he is not at the required level.
How has McCrorie fared so far since he came back?
McCrorie has featured just three times in the Scottish Premiership since coming back.
He has played a total of 69 minutes in the league, and last featured on the 2 September against Falkirk in the 2-1 win.
The defender has bagged himself an assist, and is averaging 1.3 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per 90 minutes, according to Sofascore data.
He has not yet overhauled Sterling for a place in McInnes' side, but he is a reliable back-up option if the number one is injured or unavailable.
What did McCrorie say about Rangers return?
When he rejoined the Light Blues, McCrorie confirmed that he was delighted to be back with the club that he supports.
Speaking to official club media upon his return, he said: “It is a dream come true to come back up the road to the team I support.
“I am not that little kid who was at Rangers back in the day. I have changed a lot character-wise, and player-wise, I feel I have changed massively.
“I feel like I am ready now, and I want to come back here and win trophies.”
That determination to succeed and the fact that he is a fan, should give him an extra boost to try and drag the side over the line when the going gets tough.
He will need to get past Sterling first, but he can provide competition and a motivational figure in the squad.
