Ally McCoist slams ‘unacceptable’ Rangers v Tottenham moment he saw at Ibrox
Ally McCoist slammed Rangers for their “unacceptable” play against Tottenham in the Europa League.
The Gers came away from the clash against Spurs with a 1-1 draw on Thursday (12 December( after a hearty performance where the players wore their hearts on their sleeves.
The home side gave their opponents a hard time with some tough pressure, including a moment where they quickly shut Rodrigo Bentancur down as he tried to counterattack, before conceding a free-kick.
Speaking live on TNT Sports [12 December, 8:30pm] McCoist said of that foul: “That’s pressure. It’s closing down and not giving people time on the ball. It’s unacceptable, but that’s what it is.”
Rangers settle for a draw against Tottenham
Although they didn’t play the prettiest football throughout the evening, sometimes that is not what matters and on a big night at Ibrox, it was good to see Philippe Clement’s team getting stuck into the occasion.
A big theme for the Gers this season has been inconsistency in both results and performances, but it is vital to improve the results first and focus on the performances afterwards.
While a point may feel cruel after leading the game, given many backed Spurs to batter the home side, this result shows that they are able to prove people wrong.
Ibrox is a hard place for any side to go and the Lilywhites are a good opposition. However, if Clement’s side can keep up this level they will no doubt be a fear for teams who come going forward.
Supporters will have been pleased to see a performance where all the players on the pitch were giving their all for the side and this will no doubt have given everyone at Ibrox a great boost for the rest of the campaign.
