Philippe Clement not right for Rangers as sack claim made ahead of Tottenham

Graham Roberts does not believe Philippe Clement is the “right man” for Rangers ahead of their clash with Tottenham on Thursday.

Clement and Ange Postecoglou are set to lock horns at Ibrox on 12 December, with the ex-Celtic boss hoping to end his run of four matches without a victory.

The Spurs man is not the only one under pressure, however, with Clement still facing mounting pressure from the Ibrox faithful despite a rapid rise in form recently.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [12 December, 10:42am], Roberts said: “I am and I’m not [a Clement fan]. He’s had to learn the hard way that the club won’t be giving him much money to spend. He’s up against it.

“Celtic made a £60million profit last year – Rangers are getting nowhere near that. For the next five or six years, if they don’t win the league, they’ll be miles behind.

“They’ve picked up in their last four games, scoring 14 and conceding one, so he’s got the nucleus of it right but I’m just not sure he’s the right man for Rangers at the moment.”

Can Philippe Clement lead Rangers to victory v Tottenham?

The Gers certainly have the ability to claim all three points against the Premier League strugglers, who could be arriving in Scotland without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

This could leave Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin as the defensive partnership, and with the form that Hamza Igamane is in right now, he could have a field day in front of the home crowd.

Postecoglou is under severe pressure from his own fans to turn things around quickly, having drawn two and lost two of his last four games, leaving them 9th in the Europa League and 11th in the Premier League.

He is unlikely to be welcomed to Ibrox given his links to Celtic and this could play into the Light Blues’ advantage, especially if the atmosphere gets to his team as well as the manager.

Clement could definitely change the minds of some of his biggest critics with a victory on Thursday night but all eyes will immediately shift to the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic as soon as the full-time whistle sounds.
