Mohamed Diomande caught in ‘Crazy’ Rangers incident v Tottenham

Steven Thompson has called Mohamed Diomande “crazy” for the booking he picked up for Rangers against Tottenham.

The sides provided an exciting first half, albeit one that ended goalless, and the supporters inside Ibrox are certainly making the noise to reflect that this game is a big occasion.

However, Diomande may have felt the atmosphere a bit too much inside the first half as he received a yellow card for sticking his hand out to the ball.

The booking means that the midfielder will be suspended for his side’s next Europa League game against Manchester United.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland [12 December: 20:20], Thompson admitted that it was a silly moment for the 23-year-old as he said: “Crazy. He will be regretting that, absolutely.

“Sometimes when the ball flashes past you, you just stick a hand up – it’s an instinct more than anything, but it’s definitely a cheap booking.”

Rangers can get a result against Tottenham

Although it remains level at half-time, the Gers have put in a good display so far and will be eager to get a result against Ange Postecoglou’s side tonight.

The supporters have been onside throughout the night and it’s clear the players are buying into that and are hungry for a result from this game.

We have seen the Gers turn it on when playing European football so far during this campaign and Philippe Clement will be happy with the display so far that shows this trend could continue against the Lilywhites.

It was a daft moment from Diomande that means he will be suspended for the next game – and a massive one at that against Premier League heavyweights Manchester United – but that is something for Philippe Clement to think about next month.

It is up to the 23-year-old to make up for his mistake in the second half and make sure he can be the difference to give his side the lead in this game, but Clement will also be wary of keeping him on too long while sitting on a yellow card.
