Why Rangers' next loan decisions could be as important as any multi-million signing

Published on

Rangers fans are excited about who could be next through the door at Ibrox as numerous names continue to be linked.

The Gers have already confirmed deals for Dan Neil, Ivor Pandur, Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie and Ben Godfrey this summer.

Vanja Dragojevic could be the next to arrive at Rangers, who are clearly nowhere near finished yet in terms of incoming activity.

There have also been outgoings, meanwhile, and that will also continue late into the window.

While it may seem of less importance to fans, loan exits will also be key this summer for the younger players.

Amid talk surrounding a few of the talented Auchenhowie gems, Rangers cannot afford to get certain decisions wrong.

Alex Smith one of many in-demand Rangers youngsters

Alex Smith is one of those in demand after impressing for Dumbarton last season.

The Daily Record recently reported he is wanted by a trio of clubs further down the pyramid.

Josh Gentles is another Rangers gem in demand, while the likes of Ashton Scally and Mason Munn could also be loaned out.

Getting the destinations for these players right is vital for the Gers given they are the future.

Young players emerging through the Ibrox ranks into the first team have been few and far between in recent years.

It is all well and good going out and spending £5million-plus on a player time and time again, but that is not sustainable.

That is why it is imperative each step is mapped out for players with the long term in mind.

Coben Fergusson could be next Rangers gem to emerge

Rangers announced this week that Coben Ferguson has signed his first pro deal at Ibrox.

There is plenty of excitement surrounding the winger, who is very much one for the future.

At 16, the first team may seem an age away. However, there is no reason why he cannot be challenging for a squad place in 18 months' time.

Factor in others, such as Aiden Crilly, Callum Burnside and Luca Rankin, and it is clear there is a bright future ahead.

But turning talent into success is a different matter, and that is why these loan exits are so important for each of them.
