Rangers have tied talented youngster Lewis Stewart down to a new contract at Ibrox.

The Gers confirmed on 7 July that they've secured the 19-year-old winger's future in G51 for another season and have the option to extend it for one more year.

In the 2025-26 campaign, the Scotland youth international spent time on loan at Alloa Athletic, scoring three goals and providing three assists in the third tier, as the Wasps missed out on promotion to the Scottish Championship.

Stewart has committed his future at Ibrox, but it would be hard to see him making Derek McInnes' plans for next season.

While the former Hearts boss is known to be keen on building his sides around a local group of talents, the young forward will arguably develop elsewhere with more regular game time.

The Glaswegian outfit have co-operation agreements with various sides in the Scottish football pyramid to provide their academy talents with a competitive environment, and the former Alloa loan star may already know his next destination.

Lewis Stewart could be set for Championship loan spell

Raith Rovers' partnership at Ibrox could end soon, with the Gers looking at other Championship clubs to send their youngsters to.

Queen's Park are said to be in pole position to strike an agreement with the Light Blues and it wouldn't be surprising to see Stewart move there next.

The Scotland Under-19 international did well in the William Hill League One and a move to the Championship seems like the perfect step up for him.

Apart from the Spiders, Greenock Morton have also approached the Govan side for a tie-up, but Lesser Hampden seems the place for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises to bet on.

Rangers agree multi-year contract with Luca Rankin as three Ibrox deals now secured

Which other youngsters could leave Rangers?

Highly rated Rangers prospect Luca Rankin signed his first professional contract, and Alloa Athletic would certainly be the perfect competitive environment for the 16-year-old midfielder to grow.

The Wasps are the League One club that the Gers have tied up with, with Stirling Albion their partners in League Two, and Stewart's success in Clackmannanshire will be encouraging for the Ibrox hierarchy.

Rydnn McGuire, Aiden McCallion, Calum Adamson, Max Cameron and Zebedee Lawson are some of the other youngsters who could find competitive minutes elsewhere next season.

The Glaswegian outfit have shown they're ready to invest in their youngsters after tying down several talented prospects to new deals, and it will be interesting to see how they progress in the coming years.
