Josh Gentles is being targeted for a loan move away from Rangers.

The 18-year-old is one of the Ibrox side's most promising young talents, signing a new contract in February.

That deal will keep him at the Govan club until 2027, with Derek McInnes' side holding the option for a further year.

He spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan with Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic, before a broken foot ended his season.

The Welshman notched seven goals and five assists in 34 matches, including 10 contributions in 19 League One matches.

Rangers face a decision on his immediate future, whether to send the gem out on a temporary basis again or keep him around to learn from the senior side.

Who wants to sign Rangers talent Josh Gentles?

Alloa want to bring Gentles in again after his season was ended early last time around.

The Alloa Advertiser claimed that the Wasps are exploring a third loan move for the Ibrox hitman.

They reveal quotes from manager Andy Graham, in which, he confirmed that he wants the young Gers star back at the Indodrill Stadium after the way his previous spell finished.

He said: "I genuinely believe if David Devine hadn't got the injury he got, and Josh Gentles hadn't broken his ankle, I think that's two humungous players for us.

"For the second half of the season, that would've really benefitted us.

"To lose them both for the whole second half of the season was a blow, there's no doubt about that.

"If we could get them fit, I think they're two absolutely massive players for us, if we can hopefully get Josh back, which is something that we're working on as well."

Josh Gentles contract extended: Everything Rangers fans need to know

Why Rangers should sanction Gentles loan to Alloa

Rangers should send Gentles back to Alloa, as he was clearly enjoying his football in Clackmannanshire.

He is not going to be a genuine option in McInnes' senior side anytime soon as he is nowhere near the level of the likes of Lawrence Shankland, Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, so it would be better for his development.

If he is to eventually break into the first-team in G51, then he needs to be playing regularly in a competitive division, rather than in youth football.

Another switch to the Wasps makes sense, as it would allow him to kick on in an environment that he is already familiar with.

If he is to become the player that the Gers hope that he will, it is the best move at this stage of his career.

There is clearly a desire from Graham to bring him back, so the move would suit all parties' needs, and the player would return to the Bears next season as a better option.
