Rangers are making moves to sign more wingers, but Fares Ghedjemis will not be one of them.

Ghedjemis, who was in Algeria's World Cup squad, was one of the original forward's link with a move to Ibrox this summer.

Bids were sent for the now-Serie A star, but Frosinone knocked back all of them, leaving Derek McInnes moving to other targets.

Moves have been made elsewhere since, with a second bid for Amario Cozier-Duberry rejected by Brighton.

The priority before the end of the window is clearly those wide options and the Gers are stepping it up.

However, while Rangers were said to be put off by Frosinone's price tag, it was never said that they had ended their pursuit in Ghedjemis - until now.

What Rangers' decision on Fares Ghedjemis means now

Rangers have admitted defeat in their push for Ghedjemis, and they have been joined by bitter rivals Celtic in doing so.

Both Scottish sides have seen attempts rebuffed and have effectively given up on that charge.

While it was said the Gers were deterred by the price tag, now journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato shares they have fully withdrawn from the pursuit.

Ghedjemis still has many options for an exit out of Frosinone, with Monaco putting forward a new offer for the Algerian.

Meanwhile, Turkish outfit Besiktas have offered a much-improved contract for the winger as they look to win the pursuit.

And for Rangers, Besiktas' interest could end up helping them in their own chase of wide forwards this summer.

Why Ghedjemis and Besiktas is one to keep an eye on

If Ghedjemis signs for Besiktas, the door to sign one of their top targets could suddenly re-open.

Rangers have been linked with a return for Vaclav Cerny this summer so if Ghedjemis makes a move to Besiktas, the Czechia could become available.

It was said that if the Turkish club signed Mohamed Salah, Cerny would be allowed to leave.

Now, with Ghedjemis also playing on the right wing, Cerny's minutes could be under threat once more.

Besiktas have positioned themselves strongly in the hunt, offering a better contract than AS Monaco.

Time will certainly tell, but stepping back from a deal for Ghedjemis may end up providing much better rewards for Derek McInnes.
