Where Rangers stand on Jens Hjerto-Dahl deal after fresh Vanja Dragojevic agreement
Rangers' chase for Jens Hjerto-Dahl may have hit a roadblock after reaching an agreement for Vanja Dragojevic.
The Bears have been keen to add a young midfielder to their ranks this summer, as the pair have both been the subject of transfer bids made by the Gers.
Hjerto-Dahl in particular has been someone the Light Blues have followed for a while, as interest in the Tromso star was recently reignited.
The 20-year-old has been on the radar of many teams across Europe, but Rangers made a move recently with a bid in the region of £5.3million, which was rejected.
The midfielder has publicly stated that he prefers a move to Ibrox over Besiktas, who have recently been linked with the Norway-U21s player.
Though Rangers have made a strong push to sign Hjerto-Dahl, they could now take their foot off the gas after reaching an agreement with Partizan Belgrade for Dragojevic.
What shaped Rangers' Jens Hjerto-Dahl move amid Vanja Dragojevic agreement
Ibrox News reported on Thursday that Rangers have agreed a £4.6m deal to sign Dragojevic from Partizan.
It's said that the Bears will pay additional bonuses that will only come to light once the deal is announced.
The Serbian is a young defensive midfielder who will offer Derek McInnes even more versatility in the middle of the park.
Rangers are already well stocked in the midfield department, with Dan Neil already new to the fold, and adding Dragojevic could alter other plans.
As reported by the Daily Record on Thursday, after Partizan Belgrade told the Bears they wanted more for their 20-year-old midfield starlet, this "sparked" the re-emergence of links to Hjerto-Dahl.
Given that a move for Hjerto-Dahl may have only come about once again because of the initial failed efforts for Dragojevic, the former may not be pursued by the Govan side any further.
Especially when considering the finances that both young midfielders would cost Andrew Cavenagh combined.
Rangers would have to spend nearly £12m on two unproven players
Tromso reportedly value Hjerto-Dahl at £7m, which may have forced the Bears to walk away and push on for Dragojevic.
At one point, it looked like the Gers could have landed both, and though nothing has been said to say they won't anymore, it seems unlikely.
After Dragojevic's £4.6m move is completed, a £7m agreement for Hjerto-Dahl would hypothetically cost Rangers almost £12m.
That's extremely steep for two 20-year-olds who are unproven, especially in McInnes' eyes.
