Why Rangers target Vanja Dragojevic missed Partizan friendly that erupted into violence
Rangers may be thankful that Vanja Dragojevic was kept out of Partizan Belgrade's recent friendly that turned into all-out chaos.
The Bears are pushing to land their next summer signing for Derek McInnes, who looks set for a midfield revamp.
Rangers' second offer of £4.2million for Dragojevic was turned down, but they are still keen to make a deal happen.
Not only that, but the Gers are trying to sign another young midfielder in Jens Hjerto-Dahl, and are also considering a second attempt for the Tromso star after being turned away the first time.
Partizan beat Azerbaijani side FK Nefci 1-0 in a friendly this week, but the Ibrox-linked man wasn't involved.
Though the reason for Dragojevic's absence is telling, the backstory to how the chaos ensued on his side is even more intriguing.
The latest on Partizan's friendly amid Rangers-linked star's absence
A report from Mozzart Sport shares all about Partizan's friendly, in which Dragojevic did not feature.
A demonstration of "martial arts" was on display, as a big fight broke out during the match against Nefci, which halted proceedings for 10 minutes.
Opposing players, Stefan Milic and Basala Sambu, were involved in a tackle that resulted in the latter grabbing the head of the former, which is where everything started.
Other players and coaches then got involved, where punches were thrown, as both Sambu and Milic later received a red card for their actions.
It's also been revealed that Rangers-linked star Dragojevic was left out of the team after fears that a move to Ibrox could be put into jeopardy through a possible injury if he were to have featured.
The 20-year-old does not have a history of injury issues, though it could mean it's fate that he was kept out of this match in particular.
Partizan want around £5.5m for Dragojevic, but that's just the fixed some that Rangers might have to pay.
The extra details Partizan want for Vanja Dragojevic
It's said that the £5.5m fee is what Partizan want up front for Dragojevic, a sum of money that would go a long way for the Serbian side.
But their requirements for a sale don't stop there, despite their previously being a deal that was almost agreed with Rangers for a lesser fee.
Parizan want additional bonuses for the midfielder, and would like to have a 10 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the deal, too.
It's not known if Rangers would be happy to pay this, as it feels like the Serbian outfit may be trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the Bears.
If he does sign, he'll have the likes of Connor Barron, Nicolas Raskin, Tochi Chuckwuani, Dan Neil and Mohamed Diomande to all compete against for a starting spot.
