Serbian journalist shares what Rangers fans can expect from Vanja Dragojevic as transfer grows closer
Vanja Dragojevic is Rangers' priority when it comes to a new midfield signing.
While the Gers hierarchy made a commitment to recruit more Scottish players, they also stated they would not solely be looking in that market.
FK Partizan star Dragojevic has appeared to catch their eye with discussions underway over a transfer.
Dan Neil has already been confirmed as a player to help shape Derek McInnes' midfield and the former Sunderland ace shares some key qualities with Dragojevic.
Both have captained their boyhood clubs and will bring that leadership to Govan.
But, Ibrox News has now been told what else could be expected of the midfielder should the deal go through.
Where does Vanja Dragojevic excel and where does he fall short?
Dragojevic to Rangers looks to be moving closer to completion.
Ibrox News shared a Rangers transfer for Dragojevic is a "matter of days" away.
However, with him coming from the Serbian league, many Bears supporters may not be too aware of the 20-year-old's talents.
Speaking to Ibrox News, Serbian football journalist and expert Aleksandar Joksic, who first broke the details of the opening bid, has shared what can be expected of the midfielder.
When speaking about his off-the-ball qualities, Joksic provided a glowing review.
He stated: "Vanja is a very aggressive midfielder, playing with a lot of energy, a lot of capacity, a lot of running.
"He's good without the ball, with marking space and marking men as well. And his defensive role is on a very high level for the Serbian league. And I think that he is capable to play in a league like Scotland, because he has some attributes that will make him run a lot, make him give 100 per cent of himself a lot in duels, in aerial duels, in one-to-one duels."
However, while he is seemingly excellent out of possession, Joksic has shared one issue that both he and FK Partizan coaches have found with Dragojevic.
He said: "With the ball, he has some difficulties, he has some problems. That is my opinion from what I could see in the past season. He knows how to send the ball nowhere.
"He knows how to put his teammates in a problem. That is something that I don't like and the coaches don't like."
However, there will not be much room for concern according to the journalist, as his other qualities level out his shortcomings.
Joksic said: "But with that energy that he delivers all the time on the pitch, these types of mistakes that I already mentioned are leveled."
"So, he's good. He's good for Serbia. But I think that he will need time to adapt to another level of football. Either Scottish football or something else if he signs for another club."
Why Dragojevic is ideal for Scottish football
While Joksic notes that an adaptation period could be needed for the Rangers target, the level of physicality will not be part of that.
According to Sofascore, the midfielder came in eight for fouls committed, showing he is willing to go into those crunching tackles.
So, with the Scottish Premiership also known for its physicality, he will certainly be ideal for the football played in that regard.
And that level of commitment for tackles will be appreciated by the Ibrox crowd.
