The two signings Rangers will pursue after they announce Olwethu Makhanya's arrival at Ibrox

Rangers are far from done as they work on signing Olwethu Makhanya from Philadelphia Union.

The Gers are close to completing their eighth summer addition, with the South African centre-back arriving for an initial fee of £3million.

After the arrival of the 22-year-old defender, the Light Blues are expected to continue doing business to reinforce their squad.

Derek McInnes clearly needs someone like Makhanya in his ranks, but there are other positions that need to be addressed at Ibrox.

The Glaswegian outfit start their season against Dundee United at Tannadice Park on 31 July and the Scottish manager hopes to have a few more fresh faces in his squad by then.

Ibrox News have followed developments around Rangers' interest in Makhanya, with a deal finally about to be confirmed.

Emmanuel Fernandez and Ben Godfrey are the only two natural centre-backs McInnes has relied on during pre-season after telling John Souttar to find a new club.

The South Africa international would add much-needed depth to the Glaswegian outfit's backline.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the Govan side advance on signing a new winger and a left-back next.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 27 July, The Scottish Sun journalist Roger Hannah said, "McInnes has already made it clear he needs two or three or four more. He wants a centre-back, another left-back and at least one winger."

It wouldn't be far-fetched to think that those are the two particular deals the Ibrox hierarchy will be working on after announcing Makhanya.
