Rangers told Vaclav Cerny could still be theirs as transfer plan laid out

Published on

Rangers have been given the ideal blueprint to secure the signing of Vaclav Cerny from Besiktas.

Cerny has emerged as a target for Rangers in recent weeks, a year after his Ibrox loan came to an end.

The Czechia international earned cult hero status in his season in Glasgow, but the Gers missed out to Besiktas on his signature.

A return to Rangers could be on the cards, but only if a compromise can be reached by all three parties involved in any deal.

However, former Rangers assistant Alex Rae - who was at Ibrox during Cerny's time there - has explained how that fee could be knocked down.

Rangers could find workaround to afford Vaclav Cerny deal

Rangers have not been afraid to spend big on individuals under the new regime.

Look no further than Youssef Chermiti, who cost an initial £8m last summer and a further £2m in add-ons.

However, it is unlikely Rangers will fancy paying £8.5m for Cerny, especially as they know they could have had him for a fair bit less last summer.

In the view of Rae, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, it is worth Rangers enquiring if a workaround is possible.

"He went to Turkey, and the wages are quite substantial out there, but it hasn't quite worked for him out there," Rae said.

"I think [Rangers] have gone out and spent a right few quid on players - and that could be a similar [situation] to players that Rangers are trying to get out.

"The teams that Danilo is going out to, or [Jose] Cifuentes - Rangers would supplement that.

"So, I would imagine if you approached Besiktas and said 'look, we will cover a certain percentage of that wage, with a fee' then there may be some sort of compromise, and you might get him for a bit less."

It is a move that would make total sense, but Cerny's hefty wages could cause some disharmony in the Ibrox ranks.

How much is Cerny currently earning?

Cerny is reported to be on around £45,000 a week at Besiktas.

If Rangers were to match that, the 28-year-old would become the highest earner at Ibrox.

Max Aarons is reported to be the highest earner as things stand, at around £39k a week, followed by Danilo on £26k.

Given Danilo is on his way out of Rangers, that will free up some further funds.

The question now is how big Rangers are willing to go with their follow-up offer, if indeed they are even still interested.
