Thelo Aasgaard saved his World Cup dream, and now he can save Rangers career
Thelo Aasgaard would have been nervous about his World Cup chances after the Rangers star was left out of the last Norway squad.
However, the Norwegian is set to compete in this summer’s showcase of football after earning his chance since March. He has been officially called up.
At club level, Aasgaard has found himself in and out of Danny Rohl’s plans over the course of the last campaign, and he has struggled to find the consistency needed.
Which is perhaps part of the reason he was omitted from the March international break.
That inconsistency has also led to questions over Aasgaard’s Rangers future, and if he wants to save it, the 2026 World Cup may be the perfect chance.

How Thelo Aasgaard can now save Rangers career
Aasgaard is officially going to the World Cup with Norway with the squad announced ahead of the upcoming tournament. He has the chance to extend his six-cap total.
The player will undoubtedly be delighted, and based on his form since the March snub, he thoroughly deserves it.
| Thelo Aasgaard since March international snub – Scottish Premiership | Total |
| Appearances | 7 |
| Starts | 5 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Assists | 1 |
Since being left out of the March friendlies, the Rangers ace has contributed to four goals in seven appearances in the Scottish Premiership.
The added motivation to make it into Stale Solbakken’s squad was clearly enough for him to improve his levels.
However, questions still remain over Aasgaard’s Ibrox future despite that rich vein of form to end the campaign.
Aagaard has already saved his World Cup dream with Rangers, so who is not to say he can save his Rangers career with Norway now?
Rohl is sure to be keeping tabs on the tournament, and he may have extra focus on the members of his squad.

Who does Thelo Aasgaard face in the 2026 World Cup?
Norway have been handed one of the toughest groups in the 2026 World Cup, with Group I also holding France, Senegal and Iraq.
However, Norway will likely be favourites to at least progress as one of the better third-place sides in North America.
If Aasgaard can produce strong performances against outfits such as France and Senegal, Rohl will surely have to take notice. With a good summer for Norway, Aasgaard could potentially save his Rangers career.
Or perhaps he could boost his price too, which the 49ers will certainly not turn their nose up at if it is agreed he should be moved on.
