Danny Rohl sack needs to happen now, Rangers have done this dance before

Danny Rohl‘s future as Rangers manager has rightly been called into question following Sunday’s defeat to Celtic.

From being title favourites in the view of many a few weeks ago to now being unable to finish any higher than third with two games to go.

It has been an abysmal run for the Gers post-split, having lost three in a row in the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 2000.

That is simply not good enough and the man overseeing matters, former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl, has to be looked at.

And on the basis of recent unhappy memories at Ibrox, the 49ers have a brutal call to make on Rohl pretty imminently.

Michael Beale and Philippe Clement failures fresh in the memory

Rangers have been in this position before numerous times, particularly in recent years.

Michael Beale and Philippe Clement, for example, were given backing before ultimately being sacked in October and February respectively of the following season.

Rohl, in his defence, showed plenty of promise in dragging Rangers back into the title picture.

But the failings have been repeated over and over. Too often the Gers have just struggled in the big fixtures.

Rangers’ mentality was questioned by Andy Halliday, and it must be said he has a point.

As brutal as it is, Rangers have to learn from the previous failures. This is the biggest summer in recent memory for all involved at Ibrox.

As hyperbolic as that sounds, the 49ers have one chance to get this right. Hearts and Celtic will get the chance to bring in some serious money through the Champions League.

The Gers simply cannot be left behind and replacing Rohl now seems like the logical choice. We have had this dance before and it cannot be repeated.

What is Rohl’s win percentage compared to recent Rangers managers?

Following the defeat to Celtic, Rohl has now won 21, drawn eight and lost nine of his 38 matches in charge of Rangers.

That is a win rate of 55.26 per cent. While win rate is sometimes a statistic that is skewed, it is more than fair to use when analysing Gers managers as they are expected to win every last game.

That win rate is substantially better than Russell Martin (29.41 per cent), who will go down as one of the biggest failures in Rangers’ history.

Clement had a 63.95 per cent win rate, meanwhile, Giovanni van Bronckhorst 59.26 per cent and Steven Gerrard 64.77.

It is clear Rohl is not even in the same region as Clement, who was hounded out.

That is simply not good enough, and there is zero evidence that will change over the summer. It is time for the 49ers to act now.
