Celtic vs Rangers footage leaves Andy Halliday ‘amazed’, it’s a ‘severe issue’ for Scottish football
Celtic’s win over Rangers was not without its controversy, with referee Nick Walsh right in the middle of it all.
Danny Rohl‘s men took a one-goal lead against their Glasgow rivals in Sunday’s final Old Firm of the campaign through Mikey Moore’s strike.
However, just like last week against Hearts, the Gers failed to build on their advantage as Yang Hyun-jun levelled before Daizen Maeda added two more.
There were plenty of contentious moments, such as Rangers feeling Celtic’s first goal should have been disallowed for offside, plus Alastair Johnston’s challenge on Moore.
Andy Halliday dissected both of those incidents as the dust settled on Rangers’ loss to Celtic.

Alastair Johnston lucky not to see red vs Rangers
Rangers’ defeat to Celtic raises fresh doubts over Rohl’s future, with this the first time the Gers have lost three in a row in the league since 2000.
Things could have turned out so much differently, however, had referee Walsh sent off Johnston for his challenge when the game was at 1-1.
| Rangers stats | vs Celtic |
| Possession | 49% |
| Shots | 9 |
| Shots on target | 3 |
| Big chances missed | 2 |
| Pass accuracy | 78% |
Johnston, to his credit, won the ball when lunging in on Moore. However, he caught his opponent high on the ankle with his follow-through.
And in the opinion of pundit Halliday, speaking on BBC Scotland’s Sportscene show, John Beaton on VAR should have flagged the incident to Walsh.
“In live play I have no issues Nick Walsh doesn’t give a red card,” Halliday said.
“But we’ve seen multiple incidents this season, when a player gets caught on that area of the leg with the studs, it’s always been given as a red card.

“I have no issue with Nick Walsh, but it’s a severe issue that VAR don’t get it right. I’m amazed it’s not resulted in a red card.”
Halliday was not as strong on his thoughts for Celtic’s first goal, feeling that it was the right call to allow it to stand.
Danny Rohl future questioned as key aspect still lacking
As a reminder, Rangers entered the post-split fixtures as the favourites of many to win the Scottish Premiership title.
The Gers may have trailed Hearts, but they had momentum and had their fate in their own hands due to the fixtures.
But they have since lost at home to Motherwell and away to Hearts and Celtic to fall comically short of the title.
Indeed, the Gers can now finish no higher or lower than third, which will be considered an embarrassment for the 49ers given the level of investment.

Halliday had his say on Rohl’s future, saying: “It’s only natural people will put this down to the mentality not being right.
“Three defeats in a row hasn’t happened since 2000. There were a couple of incidents today where I think the mentality should definitely be questioned.”
That is a view Rangers fans will totally agree on. Unfortunately there is a serious mentality issue right now, and that has to come down to the man leading the group.
