Youssef Chermiti exit on cards at Rangers as Danny Rohl already eyes first transfer
Danny Rohl may make a new striker a priority at Rangers in the winter transfer window despite spending heavily on Youssef Chermiti, Andy Halliday says.
The former Gers player expects the first thing the German manager will do in January is sign a new centre-forward.
Chermiti’s £8million move to Ibrox has been a failure, with many fans in G51 questioning the need to spend such a significant sum on the Portugal Under-21 international.
Bojan Miovski has also failed to give Rohl a reason to start him, with the 26-year-old struggling for game time at the Glaswegian outfit since his summer move from Girona.

Danny Rohl signings to replace Rangers summer additions
Halliday believes whoever the Gers sign in the winter transfer window will be replacing those who Kevin Thelwell brought to G51 in the summer.
The Motherwell star expects Rohl’s chosen players to oust those the Light Blues recently spent big money on.
A new number nine should undoubtedly be a priority at Ibrox, with James Tavernier the leading goalscorer with six goals this season.
Speaking on Open Goal on 11 November, Halliday said: “If [Rohl] does get money to spend, it’ll be the money that they spent in the summer that’s going to get ousted out for his players. It’s the players that they spent big fees for in the summer, if he gets to sing his own players, it’s them that he’s replacing.”
The Scotsman added: “[A new striker] is the first thing he’s signing.”
Ibrox News understands that Braga want Chermiti, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave the Gers sooner than expected after his recent struggles.
Danny Rohl has another transfer priority at Ibrox
Rohl could lose John Souttar and Derek Cornelius next summer, with the Scotland international’s contract expiring in the coming months and the Canadian centre-back on loan in Govan, though an option to buy is included in the deal.
Rangers signed Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons and Jayden Meghoma on loan from down south, but they’ll eventually have to return to their parent clubs.
| Player | Age |
| James Tavernier | 34 |
| Liam Kelly | 29 |
| John Souttar | 29 |
| Kieran Dowell | 28 |
| Derek Cornelius | 27 |
| Kieran Wright | 26 |
| Rabbi Matondo | 25 |
| Max Aarons | 25 |
| Nasser Djiga | 22 |
| Bailey Rice | 19 |
| Jayden Meghoma | 19 |
| Mikey Moore | 18 |
Tavernier’s current deal also ends in the summer of 2026, and it would be surprising to see the Light Blues hand him an extension.
There’s uncertainty surrounding the Glaswegian outfit’s defence right now, and reinforcements will undoubtedly be one of Rohl’s priorities in that department.
