Nicolas Raskin transfer dilemma emerges as Rangers need to raise funds
Rangers may need to sell Nicolas Raskin in the winter transfer window to raise funds for reinforcements, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist believes the Gers are in a tight spot as they could potentially have financial fair play (FFP) issues in G51 after a £20million net spend in the summer.
Kevin Thelwell’s recruitment at Ibrox has come under heavy criticism, with arguably none of his 12 new signings making a big enough impact in Govan.
Danny Rohl must’ve realised the gap in quality against Roma, with the Glaswegian outfit outclassed in the 2-0 Europa League defeat on 6 November, but making new signings may require a sacrifice at Ibrox.

Rangers can’t afford Nicolas Raskin sale in January
Jackson feels it wouldn’t be sensible for the Gers to sell Raskin, who’s their best player, in January.
The Belgium international has continued to be a key player at Ibrox this season after a few bumps in his relationship with Russell Martin.
Rohl has relied heavily on the 24-year-old as his midfield pivot, which has certainly led to improved performances at the Glaswegian outfit.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 11 November, Jackson said: “I think they might have to raise funds through sales, and I’m not sure right now who you offload. And I’m certainly not sure it’s a great idea to offload Raskin, for example. Would you cash in on him now to raise money? Can your midfield work without him?”
Raskin was being linked with a move away from Ibrox in the summer, and many fans were delighted to see the Gers keep a hold of him.
With the midfielder surely expected to play a significant role for Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Light Blues receive a significant sum from his sale in the summer despite his contract expiring in 2027.
Kevin Thelwell should sell three players to raise funds at Ibrox
Rabbi Matondo is surprisingly still at Ibrox, and it’s time the Glaswegian outfit get his wages off the books permanently.
Another sale Rangers must make is that of Kieran Dowell, who played a key role at the start of the season under Martin but has been an absent figure in recent months.
| Player | Age | Contract until | Value |
| Rabbi Matondo | 25 | 2026 | £1.32m |
| Kieran Dowell | 28 | 2026 | £880,000 |
| Nedim Bajrami | 26 | 2028 | £2.2m |
Nedim Bajrami has also fallen way down the pecking order since Rohl’s arrival, and the Light Blues should cut their losses in January.
Another squad rebuild will surely be expected in G51 in the upcoming transfer windows, and Kevin Thelwell certainly can’t make any blunders at Ibrox.
