Billy Dodds and Michael Stewart in disagreement after Rangers debacle

Billy Dodds and Michael Stewart have differing opinions on whether Rangers can win the William Hill Premiership this season.

The ex-Gers forward believes the feeling in G51 will be that they can win the league title despite the 12-point gap with table-toppers Hearts.

Danny Rohl beat Dundee at Dens Park on 9 November, with the Light Blues managing to get three back-to-back league wins for the first time in the current campaign.

Derek McIness has revolutionised Hearts this season, and ambitions at the Edinburgh outfit are high after a strong start.

Rangers have uphill battle in William Hill Premiership

While Dodds still has hope for the Gers in the William Hill Premiership, Stewart isn’t confident about their chances.

The former Manchester United midfielder wants the focus to shift to the Light Blues’ improvement under Rohl at Ibrox instead of talks about the title race.

Hearts have dropped points in recent weeks, leaving the door open for the two Old Firm clubs to close the gap at the top of the table.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast on 10 November, Dodds said: “I think in the building they’ll be saying to themselves ‘we’re still in this’. But they’ve got to still fix a whole lot of problems.”

Stewart added: “I don’t think Rangers will win the title. But you’re forgetting about whether they win the title or not. You need to look at more the case of the debacle or shambles that has unfolded to what’s happening now under Rohl. And there’s no question there’s an improvement.”

Many among the Ibrox faithful know Rohl has a mountain to climb in the William Hill Premiership, but it doesn’t hurt to have a glimmer of hope and expectation.

Danny Rohl should have January transfer demand at Ibrox

It would be surprising to see Rohl not demand reinforcements from Andrew Cavenagh, with the American owners faced with the decision of further investment.

In the summer, Rangers had a net spend of around £20million, yet they have arguably gotten worse.

Kevin Thelwell has come under heavy criticism at the Gers, and it remains to be seen whether the US consortium trust him with more money in the winter transfer window at Ibrox.

Hearts are in for a long season, and the Glaswegian outfit need to be in a position to pounce on their mistakes.
