Kevin Thelwell has one saving grace at Rangers after Ibrox transfer shambles

Rangers would be foolish to trust Kevin Thelwell with more funds in the winter transfer window.

The Gers’ sporting director has come under heavy criticism from fans after a shambolic start to the season under Russell Martin.

Thelwell took control of recruitment at Ibrox in the summer, but it can be argued that none of his 12 signings have drastically improved the Light Blues.

Danny Rohl should demand new signings from Andrew Cavenagh in January, and the former Everton chief will surely argue he’s learnt from his mistakes.

Derek Cornelius an example of what Rangers need

Thelwell will certainly want some credit for identifying and signing Derek Cornelius at the Gers.

The centre-back moved on loan to Ibrox in the previous transfer window from Olympique Marseille, with an option to buy present in the deal.

Rohl recorded his third straight league win against Dundee, with Nicolas Raskin, Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama scoring in the 3-0 victory.

Cornelius was instrumental at Dens Park on 9 November, and it’s safe to say he could potentially be a saving grace for the sporting director.

While fans have lost faith in Thelwell, Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may look at how the likes of Cornelius, Moore and Gassama have grown into their roles in recent weeks and continue backing the former Everton chief.

The US consortium now have to ensure the Glaswegian outfit improve their recruitment strategy in the winter window as they undoubtedly need reinforcements.

Danny Rohl to demand two new signings at Ibrox

Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski have been unreliable at Ibrox, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new number nine arrive in Govan sooner rather than later.

Rangers have failed to count on their two new signings to consistently find the back of the net this season, making reinforcements up front an undoubted priority.

Another position the Light Blues need to strengthen is their defence, with Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons and Emmanuel Fernandez failing to make a mark in G51.

Hopefully, Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will free up some more funds in January to give the German manager what he wants.
