Rangers fans just want one thing with Willie Collum as new SFA meeting set at Ibrox

Rangers want another meeting with the SFA regarding the controversy in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final loss to Celtic.

The Daily Mail reports on 10 November that while the governing body haven’t been officially approached, the Gers want “meaningful accountability” due to concerns over “inconsistencies”.

Danny Rohl’s team lost to Celtic on 2 November, with the game ending 3-1 after extra time with goals from Johnny Kenny, James Tavernier, Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand.

However, it was Auston Trusty’s late challenge on Jack Butland, kicking the goalkeeper on the head, that has dominated the headlines since, with the SFA’s Key Match Incident Panel admitting the American defender should’ve been sent off.

Willie Collum sack should be on cards as Rangers continue to suffer from refereeing errors

While Nick Walsh booked Trusty, it was only a yellow card, and VAR Steven McLean should’ve intervened and recommended an on-field review.

In the 2024 Premier Sports Cup final, Willie Collum had to come out and admit VAR should’ve awarded a penalty to the Gers for Liam Scales’ foul of Vaclav Cerny.

With the game 3-3 in injury time, the spot-kick could’ve been decisive as the Light Blues eventually went on to lose on penalties.

Rather than another apology from Collum, it’s time the Scottish footballing authorities recognised that change needs to start from the top and evaluate the future of the Head of Referee Operations.

While Collum will no doubt want to clarify his stance on what went down at Hampden Park, fans in G51 rightfully believe that enough is enough.

There should be a total revamp of how officiating takes place in Scotland, as the Glaswegian outfit, and other teams, have time and again had to suffer from officiating mea culpas.

Danny Rohl has one priority as Ibrox silverware hopes fade

Rohl has an uphill battle in the Europa League after losing 2-0 to Roma at home on 6 November, with chances of qualification to the knockout rounds looking slim after four defeats in a row.

Rangers have cut the gap with Hearts to 12 points with a game in hand, but the Ibrox faithful won’t be holding their breath about their chances of winning the William Hill Premiership this season.

All the German manager can now do is steady the Light Blues’ domestic form and hope to get as close to the top of the table as possible.

Rohl’s next priority should be winning the SFA Challenge Cup in the current campaign, as the Glaswegian outfit need to once again get used to winning trophies before eventually competing for the league title.
