Nicolas Raskin exit talks begin – Three things you may have missed at Rangers this week after manager drama
Steven Gerrard has been the central talking point at Rangers this week, with the manager now rejecting the opportunity to return.
Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have taken the reins to appoint a new head coach, but the boss who delivered 55 at the Gers is out of the running.
Russell Martin was sacked after the draw against Falkirk on 5 October, and who the Light Blues will hire to replace him has dominated headlines.
But amid all the chaos at the Glaswegian outfit, there are a few stories that may have gone under the radar.

Besiktas want Nicolas Raskin transfer from Rangers
Besiktas have started efforts to sign Nicolas Raskin, 24, in the January transfer window, according to Yeni Acik.
The news outlet reported on 10 October that the Super Lig outfit’s manager, Sergen Yalcin, has given his approval to pursue a deal for the Belgian midfielder at Ibrox.
With the Turkish club looking to finalise a deal for Raskin in the coming months, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them begin talks with the Gers soon.
Keith Jackson questions Robbie Thelwell whereabouts at Ibrox
Keith Jackson has questioned where Robbie Thelwell is after failing to see any confirmation from the Light Blues.
The Daily Record journalist hasn’t seen the potential new head of recruitment arrive at Ibrox as of yet, hinting at a possible change of stance at the Glaswegian outfit.

Kevin Thelwell has faced significant criticism in G51 for his underwhelming recruitment strategy in the summer, and his son’s potential appointment has led to accusations of nepotism.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 7 October, Jackson said: “Where’s Robbie? A week ago, that looked like an appointment was just about done and dusted, so much so that Martin was even talking about it in press conferences. Robbie is yet to arrive, as far as I can see. I don’t see any confirmation of his appointment.”
Ross Wilson appointed at Newcastle United after Rangers stint
Newcastle United have appointed former Rangers chief Ross Wilson as their new sporting director.
The Magpies were in advanced talks with Nottingham Forest before making it official, and had been keeping tabs on him since his time at the Gers.
Player | Current club |
Ridvan Yilmaz | Besiktas |
Rabbi Matondo | Rangers |
Ben Davies | Oxford United (on loan from Rangers) |
Tom Lawrence | Perth Glory |
Aaron Ramsey | Pumas UNAM |
Wilson was sporting director at the Glaswegian outfit between October 2019 and April 2023, and didn’t make a positive impression at Ibrox with several questionable signings.
