Rangers ‘to invest £15m-plus’ into more transfers after Igamane exit news

Hamza Igamane could be the big name exit from Rangers this summer.

Igamane has shown flashes of brilliance in his one season at Ibrox, with his deadly finishing ability attracting a lot of transfer interest.

With Rangers aiming to rebuild their squad, profits from transfer sales will be vital in this summer window, and Igamane’s possible departure will help in this regard.

Lille are said to have agreed personal terms with the striker, but with an exit likely regardless of that, the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh could bank another £15million.

Rangers need to reinvest Igamane sale funds

Despite being unknown upon his arrival, £15m for Igamane would only be below Calvin Bassey’s move to Ajax in terms of club-record sales.

Given that Igamane joined Rangers for £1.7m last year, this represents a huge profit on a player who often found himself out of the starting XI.

Rangers are active in the transfer market, and winger Djeidi Gassama looks set to be the next arrival in a busy summer window.

Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail (July 9, pg 65), Calum Crowe believes every penny of any fee needs to be reinvested into the squad if Russell Martin is to stand any chance of success in Glasgow.

“Hamza Igamane is likely to leave amid strong interest from clubs in France, ensuring that another £15m is pumped into the Rangers coffers,” he wrote.

“Plainly, Martin will need every penny of that and more to be reinvested.”

Rangers need Igamane sale for rebuild

Although many would have liked to see Igamane stay for another year and become the starting striker, the money on offer could be too good to turn down.

Rangers and Celtic both need to adopt selling models, where they buy low, sell high and reinvest the profits into the squad.

Nicolas Kuhn is leaving Celtic for a huge fee, and Rangers could respond with the sale of Igamane, as both clubs aim to improve several areas of their squad.

Given the size of the rebuild at hand, Rangers will need to spend any Igamane money well, and will also need backing in the market from the 49ers and Cavenagh to build a squad capable of winning silverware.
